INDIA world's largest RICE exporter in 2015. Yet need to worry in 2016

Despite the two consecutive years of drought, there is something to cheer for agricultural sector. According to Bangkok based Thai Rice Exporters Association, India is the world's largest rice exporter in 2015. By exporting 10.23 million tonnes of rice india has overtaken Thailand. Vietnam is the third in exports only after Thailand. While China remained the number 1 importer of rice.

This is a great news for Indian economy as well as farmers, But there is something to worry and hurry(in Government's policy and action plan). According to United Nations body FAO(Food And Agricultural Organisation) India's rice exports may decline by 20% in 2016 possibly due to tight supplies and growing domestic demand.

Diversifying the food basket and food production is a great concern, However intensifying the already headed rice production is the immediate need of the time. As green revolution pushed the rice to become staple crop and food sidelining the previously existed. Farmers are depending more and more on rice production. Both the failure in the production as well as fall in global commodity prices will certainly lead to a worse effect in the longer run. Irrespective of monsoon government of the day must step in to devoid the possible decline.

Rice so good with surprise.
